    A Field in England

When a film sets out to be a sort of philosophically evocative feature, you know the results are going to be very, very mixed. This period piece taking place in 1648 finds us in a raging war as a group of men become deserters, captured by two men who seem to cast a spell on them as they force their will on them. That's the straightforward part and it really doesn't reveal what the film is truly about. But in short time, arguments, fighting and paranoia set in so to become "viscerally thrilling" as some have described it. THIS IS THE TRUE NATURE OF THE FILM AND EACH WILL REACT VERY DIFFERENTLY TO WHAT THEY WITNESS ON SCREEN. I honestly haven't come to a total reconciliation in my mind as to the nature or thesis of this unusual film so I will go right down the middle and give it a 5.
