I cant beleive how many people gave this rating a 1 or 2... This movie was a non stop rollercoster of thrills in a fantasy city. Its comic book style of filming was very appropriate and casting was perfect. While watching the movie I was reminded of the game MAX PAYNE, if you loved that game's story than you must see sin city.

There are three stories in one. Mickey Rourkes story is worth the price of admition alone. This is a must see movie I've never seen anything like it on the big screen.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Very good movie. You feel like reading a comic book more than watching a movie, which is great. The cinemography was amazing. The characteres were intresting. A city where peace depends on a truce between its whores and police, what do you want more? The only thing, I was disappointed in the end, because I was hoping the separete storylines would come all together to make a final conclusion, which didn't happen. Maybe this would happen in a sequale, I don't know!

As a fan of the comic, I was seriously unimpressed by the movie. It's sense of balance is awful and the actors deliver every line so badly. I wish I had never seen this movie at all! They should have left the comic intact because it doesn't translate well into film. Yes the visuals are amazing but the story and pacing is so garbage that even the special effects couldn't save this piece of crap!

This movie looks great. And I think the main reason for that is the fact that frank miller actually worked on this movie which I think made the difference. The cinematogrpahy and even the acting was good. The recent movies with big stars cast have failed to deliver and this hits the perfect spot. Go watch if your stomach can hold some good violence.

It's difference is like a slap in the face. The whole movie challenges the senses. Some people say it's the worst movie ever, they just didn't know much about what sin city the graphic novel. I bet Frank Miller is proud, and he has a right to be. You don't connect with the characters as much as some movies, but it very enjoyable just sitting back and enjoying the ride. I reccomend this movie to anyone that loves violence, difference, and black and white movies. Do Not bring your children at all to this movie, definitely a 18+ movie.

An excellent movie and though it is violent its filming in black and white greatly diminishes its realism. It was clear to me throughout the film that this was truly and completly fiction. Those who think it was unrealistic need to remember it is fiction. This movie was a perfect graphic novel to screen adaptation and I came out of it feeling an adrenaline rush that I haven't feel from a movie in a long time. Those people who don't like alot of violence in their films should probably not go to see this film without at least watching the trailers. Overall though its was an artistic, well acted, and very well made film definitely worth the price of admission.

An amazing movie that holds true to the original comic. However, IF you are not the type to enjoy Noir comics than stay away. People must be reminded that this movie is based on a style of comic that is known for violence and somewhat deranged principles. To complain that the movie sucks cause it's too violent is quite frankly out of context. You might as well complain about pornographic films having too much nudity, it's about doing the same thing. Those who read the comic will also realise that the dialogue is almost word for word out of the strips so it's not the director had much choice in that department. This movie is quite frankly one of the best comic adaptations to the big screen I've seen. Take it for what it is and not what you want it to be.

As for every good movie, you will find the viewers that haven't understood a thing and hate it - it's plain rubbish! They say - the ones that haven't understood it but still liked it - that was totally cool dude! You would hear - and those that genuinely criticize it. In order to understand the master of this movie you will need to go to the bottom of things. Frank Miller, the crème de la crème of contemporary comic creators, has worked on ever-famous comics such as Daredevil, Batman and his own Sin City. The story is taken from three of his comic books including the latter. Violence, clichés, noir, contrasts, light to inexistent plots... welcome to the world of comic books! If you are expecting a fully elaborated plot you are looking for the wrong thing. The beauty of this movie is that it takes - as faithfully as any adaptation seen in history - the entire essence of the original work. The images seem to have been literally plucked out of the comic book and one could take snapshots of the movie and get a comic book out of it. Those of you that grew up to comic books will understand that readily - and I can guarantee that this movie will bring back memories in you – others, that are less acquainted, will be lost and puzzled and will give bad publicity to a movie that truly deserves praise. I give two thumbs up to Miller and Rodriguez.

God help me I loved it. I'll probably whatch it again, buy the DVD and pray they make another one. It's dark, violent and pessimistic and very entertaining just like a film noir should be. I can see how the film can be considered repulsive by a lot of people though... But when you mix murder, canibalisme, sex, vengeance and religion together in any medium you are bound to get polarized opinions about it. Look... It's just a movie, a comic book movie at that. It's not ment for kids, good god fearing folk or any of you [...] who, "like, have to go see that new romantic comedy with Hugh Grant." You should go see this movie if only to find out which side of the fence you sit, and if you can suspend your disbelief long enough to get in to the stories, you might even enjoy it as much as I did.

The extensive use of blue screen technology to create the effect of a commic strip world was used earlier in 2004's Sky Captain and the World of Tommorow. The use of over the top violence; gallons of blood and tons of "tough talk" was used earlier in 2004's Kill Bill. The only inovations in Sin City are to use the technology and the writing to tell a much darker, less amusing and far more pointless story. I don't think it is to the movie's credit or to the credit of the viewer to say that this is a movie about violence that people who like violence will enjoy seeing. It's just sad.

Definitely my pick for Best Picture since Schindler's List. Mickey Rourke and Clive Owen were absolutely amazing. Bruce Willis, Josh Hartnett, Rosario Dawson and the rest of the cast were great too. BEST DIRECTION on any film I've ever seen (sorry Peter Jackson) The film-noir darkness was perfect and every scene was so gut-wrenching and realistic I felt sick to my stomach (when a movie FEELS real you know it's a good movie) This is definitely not for everyone, some plot points are confusing and some might say there is no plot. Well they're right, because there are 3 plots and they are intertwined and so perfectly melded together. Grade A movie. Not for people who don't like different movies. Very original and I hope to start reading the comics when I find them.

I thought this movie was excellent. People saying there where no story to it, you should pay attention, there is alot going on. I thought it was very original and well done. The actors where all excellent. Yes it is violent, but it's not big surprise it says so in the rating, (extreme violence)it actualy says that:) So if you don't have the stomach don't go see it, no secrets here!!!

This movie is simply awful a piece of garbage. The clever style, film noir technique becomes boring after 10 minutes and viewer is left with gratutous, repulsive violence and a ridiculous and inane plot line. The movie is without any redeeming value whatsoever. I walked out after 1 hour and regret not walking out after 10 minutes. The content and style should have been left in the comic book form. A thoroughly unpleasant and disgusting piece of work. My opinion is shared with several other people I know.

I absolutely loved this movie. It was a visual adhesive for my mind and my eyes; it had absolutely dazzling cinematography. The plot(s) were unconventional and I loved that about it. It was something different and I can't stress enough how much I loved it. The ultraviolence and obvious sexuality was at home in the movie, in my humble opinion, and not offensive at all.

This movie is a definite MISS. Quentin tout has read his own press clippings way too much and this bit is just him spunking all over the fools who pay to see it. Even the arty postproduction effects are old and tired--you can do it yourself with photoshop. The violence is gratuitous, the plot is non-existence, and the acting is high-school... wai... no, elementary school play caliber (with apologies to children in plays everywhere) Give this one a WIDE BERTH. Miss it.

Very good and very originally shot movie. The violence is not all over the top - mostly done in strict comic-book fashion aka Batman with the Biff, Bam, Pow etc. And because of the black & white shooting with sporadic colour effects, it's not overdone. Mickey Rourke does a very good job and definitely adds some comic relief as do a few other one-liners in the movie. Tarantino does not go overboard as he did with Kill Bill & swords, but actually adds a nice flair into the mix. Well worth seeing - evening or matinee.

Man this was crazy at the première. So many ppl. I never seen this happening except for Star wars. There's crazy fans out there. I had to wait so long in lineup for this one that expectations were building up. Usually when u expect alot u get disappointed. But for this one, u don't be for sure 'cause I wasn't. This was different. Original indeed from the old style action movies we see usually. U do feel the few touches Tarantino made. If u liked Kill bill, u'll love this one for sure.

That movie was sick like hell, they mixte the cartoon and the realistic in a way that it can't be replace by any movie. I didn't like it at first but then, it got into a interesting angle and I realize how good this movie is... This will go into my DVD list.

Best film noire adaptation of a comic book series that I've ever seen! Visually stunning, beautifully crafted. Dialogue overdone at times, especially in the third story which was unfortunately predictable. The first two stories however, were fantastic! I would recommend it to all avid film-buffs.

Well, it was certainly entertaining. It started out slow, then got good, but ended slow again. The black and white presentation punctuated with strategic bits of colour here and there was interesting to begin with, but after a while I felt like I was watching one of those Gatorade commercials. The characters were a bit over the top for my liking (read Q. T.'s fault for meddling) and this removed any sort of realism from the movie and left nothing but empty violence. The violence, however, was done quite well and worth the price of admission. An okay effort but largely forgettable.

I hated this piece of crap movie!!! Eleven people before me walked out. I was the 12th. I tried to sit through it (a buddy of mine paid for the movie) but I just couldn't. It was like a Looney Tunes cartoon on crack. It 's stupid and pointless. The only people I can imagine liking this movie are alpha males aged 13-24. A very good movie, if you look at it in the artistic sense. The graphics and the use of colors are very well done. However, not meant for the weak of heart unless you feel like vomiting your popcorn all over whoever came with you. A bit too much violence and not a lot of plot... it was a bit long too. But if you are a fan of this kind of movie it is a must-see.

Although there is a large disagreement with previous ratings of this film, please be aware that the film genre is not for everybody, the only way to really judge the film is to go see it yourself, but in the meantime, go ahead and read what I thought. Yes, the film is filled with gore, sex and other things of that nature, but could you expect anything else going into a movie that is an ACTION THRILLER. The plot is incredible and all the characters make an impact in some way and even though they arent completely developed, you still get a sense of what they are. The colour effects of the film are incredible and there are countless moments that stay in your memory. All in all, Sin City is not for everyone, dont go see it if your looking for incredible award-winning performances by the actors, expect what you should from the genre, lots of action, sex, violence and scenes filled with humor, even I was surprised at the amount of humor they got into the film. Again, it's not for everyone, it should even be rated 18+ but it's a great film to watch for those who are fans of this type of genre.
