I left the theater feeling sick to my stomach. Some of the inconsiderate people that Micheal showed, just made me want to scream. I have never had such a disrespect for charles Hesston in my life, how he held the NRA meeting in the towns right after each event happened, and how he walked away from the picture of that little girl. This movie was amazing, it was a big slap in the face, about what the media does, and just about the raw truth's of life in general. I'm going to make my family go see it. Micheal you did a grerat job.

Should be required viewing for all. Whether or not he intends to, however, Moore naively glosses over similar problems of racism and violence in Canada (giving Canadians a "yay Canada, we're so much better" feeling that deepens our denial) All in all, it is both entertaining and intelligent. It investigates and reveals some shocking facts that show the connection between violence purpetrated by the State for its own greedy ends and how it inevitably trickles into the collective psyche of the average citizens despite State-promoted media distraction (in the form of constant fear) A great flic for Chomsky fans. A very important movie!

Riveting. If nothing else, this film nails the american government for the geniocides it has engineered in so many countries over the last 100 years. But it is so much more than just that. To people who say Moore is scattered in his point and it is unclear "who he blaims" for the firearms epidemic, that's the point! Moore doesn't proclaim that he has all the answers - he's presenting the issues and compelling us to figure it out. That's what makes it such a brilliant piece - it doesn't spoon feed us the answers! The South Park abridged history of black-white relations in the states is genius! I implore you to see this film - it will expand the way you see things.

I really wished that I absolutely loved that movie... but I would be lying to myself. At one point, you see Michael Moore going in so many directions that you're not sure who he is accusing. Interviews with Marilyn Manson and Charlton Heston are a must. A much needed movie.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.]
A poignant piece of documentary filmmaking. Michael Moore tugs at your heart strings and your sense of "do good" justice in this film but never really gets to the heart of what is wrong with America and it's love of the Second Amendment. Interesting portrayal of the Nichols guy (read: "Nutball") The piece with Dick Clark was quite disturbing considering what a "Hero" the mass media makes him out to be. Clark's "star power" just lost a few notches of luminescence. Brilliant. Proves quite convincingly in the Kmart sequence that the common man can make a difference. Again brilliant and very inspiring. I was a little worried by some of the miscreants, evildoers, infidels and drifters in the Theatre wearing Goretex and Peruvian Toques but my fears were assuaged when Wavy Gravy sat in front of me. Great film, makes you think and laugh a little too, all at the same time. Go see it. Is Moses really a racist that sleeps with a loaded gun in his cold dead hands?

This film accomplished one very basic objective: it portrayed in vivid detail how xenophobic, ignorant and violent the majority of Americans are... but is this boring premise news to anyone? No. Instead, the film merely restates the obvious: everybody already knows that American gun policy is too lax. Everybody already knows that a literal interpretation of the 2nd Amendment is ridiculous when applied to a 21st century urban landscape. And finally, everybody knows that the majority of Americans don't possess the discernment or intelligence required for responsible gun ownership. Nothing new. Unfortunately, Moore's film did little else than to parody inarticulate gun-owners, while offering no solutions or fresh ideas to further the debate. De plus, the film was disjointed and lacked a logical flow (genre, a 2-minute recap of imperialistic American foreign policy in Vietnam, Nicaragua, et al... what's the relevance to the gun-control debate?) Moore should have thanked Heston for providing him with valuable footage for his film, instead Moore aggressively attacks and provokes him in his own home, insinuating that the accidental death of a 6 yr. Old child is somehow attributable to Heston. I don't see the link. Indeed, there is no link, and that is the crucial fault of Moore's film as a whole: in his legitimate attempt to address the gun-control debate he provides no answers, offers no new insight, and instead ends up drawing blanks.

Excellent and damning critique of U. S. gun culture and 'culture of fear' that is promoted by the mainstream media and politicians. Humourous and also poignant, givingthe audience plenty t think about after.

Absolutely one of the best and most truthful movies I have ever seen. Laced with sarcasm that pokes at the idiocy of what could be a powerful country that could promote peace but practices otherwise. I was born in the USA and choose to live in wonderful (common sense) Canada.

Michael Moore exposes audiences to what few film directors ever dare to -- a range of emotion that we choose. Images that leave you in tears one moment, outraged the next, and your eyes wide open to a world of consumption, illusion, and compassion. He avoids stylish antics or self-aggrandizement. He never ocne turns away from the painful or bleak hypocrisy. His eye is vigilant and critical. His heart is fearless and large. And his film is a bold, funny masterpiece.

Michael Moore reveals an ugly side of American gun culture, one that is troubling and embarrassing to me as an American who often despairs of our increasing culture of violence. There are good reasons why I prefer living in Canada at the moment. But there is another thing that must be kept in mind by audiences - a real concern that I fear from encountering such attitudes on a tiresome daily basis - is that Moore's film will lead some hateful people to further indulge in jingoistic, sterotyping Anti-Americanism. Moore's film is more complex and better deserving than that, and as one reviewer has pointed out, growing social violence is a concern everywhere, though most prevalent in the US. For those concerned about a complex and troubling social problem, the film is a must - but to take it merely as cheap Anti-American propaganda does Moore and his a message a great disservice.

This movie just reinforced my opinion about the sad decline that is currently going down in the US. This movie is the BANNERPEICE for revolution and truth, and knowledge that must be known in order to shed the ignorance that we're surrounded by. It gives me hope that someone like Micheal Moore would take the time to educate people about the REAL filth that is the US... He discusses issues from media's conditioning of society, to the ignorance of the majority of the American poeple, to the things that the media and the government tries their hardest to conceal. This movie should be played in TIMES SQUARE for the American public.

A must-see for anyone with who's against the upcoming invasion of Iraq. A telling indictment on a society addicted to violence as a solution to its problems. It is interesting to note that many countries have the same level of gun ownership as the US, but far lower gun-related death rates. The only difference I can see between the two is that one (the US) has a very poor social safety net and a very aggressive "war on drugs" whereas the others take a much more "societal" approach and have a much less aggressive anti-drugs stance. The film starts to make these links when comparing the US to Canada. Thus it is important that Canadians don't heed the siren voices calling for the dismantling of Medicare. There is clearly a link in my opinion between these. Finally, Michael Moore reminds us that big media is partly responsible for whipping up people's insecurities and fears. There are alternatives which present more balanced coverage and I urge people to read the real news at such sites as news. [...]

YES!! It's about time someone started telling the serious truth about the gun control issue. This documentary should be shown to every single American (and everyone else for that matter) - in every school, theatre, and channel across the country. It also made me proud to be Canadian though that's not a good reason to recommend it (a good bonus though!) Before one gets too patriotic, one has to realize that this is a problem which exists on a GLOBAL scale... this predominately American problem has become OUR problem. A good wake-up call...

Micheal Moore's "Bowling for Columbine" outdoes his previous film "Roger and Me" for its willingness to approach a major social problem in American culture, not just an economic crisis in Flint, Michigan. His references to historical situations, as well as the incorporation of the opinions and insights of average joes whom he meets along the way enliven the authenticity of this unique documentary..

Mr. Moore has taken a simple premise -- why does the culturally imperialistic United States have hundreds of times more gun murders than Canada, the U. K. , Japan, Australia, France, etc. ? Then he proceeds to give his answers. Maybe the film gets a little self indulgent once in a while -- the part where he's going on about smog, while that's an important problem really wasn't germane to the topic of the film -- but you have to admit that there were some good points in the film too..

BEAUTIFUL!! I just saw this movie and it was extremely good. Poignant, informative, funny, sad, intelligent and all presented with some humour (whenever possible) It is even better than his other film Roger and Me. He makes the making of a film look like this is soooo easy and fun to make since his material is so good that it speaks for itself. The real stories and real characters that he uses are just mind bogglingly true in being smart, stupid, ignorant, funny, etc... His straight forward and not-so straight forward controversies are brought out through the characters in the film without too much need for narration. I could not see the last 5 minutes of the movie because of a power failure (possibly caused by Americans attacking our power transformers :-) A classic which I will see again!!

This is a must see for anyone even remotly interested in current events. The facts presented in this documentary are well presented. I can't comment on the validity of the facts presented since I've never taken the chance to double check. I can say that some are very shocking and thought provoking. I'm not sure that I agree with the conclusion but it certainly got me thinking. You really have to check it out.
