Love love love love love this movie, could have been filmed in my wife's hometown, in her kitchen, uncanny, great attention to detail. Jenny is a lovable character, a young audrey hepburn, some of the scenes she steals are totally oscar-worthy, and pay attention to her speaking voice - hard to do when otherwise so charming - positively gorgeous. Movies like these give me hope.

This movie shows the dream world of young women at the time, and maybe today, where they can change their focus in an instance of favourable attention. As soon as Jenny gets attention from what she perceives as a smart older guy, she loses all perspective on her own life. Very good story, and very believable, especially for the time portrayed.

Carey Mulligan headed off a strong cast that left a lasting impression. Many have responded that the parents were too naive and the story was predictable, but aren't most films like that? To those that find it slow... YOWZA! I'm guessing they could never endure classic films like Raise the Red Lantern or Bridge on the River Kwai! Nick Hornby novels are a step above this film, but it was an enjoyable experience nonetheless.

I'm not really sure... We watched the first 45 minutes and it was so slow that my husband got bored and turned it off. We suspected we could guess how it played out. I found David creepy and Jenny (and her parents) naive.

This film proved to be quite a conversation starter, after having seen it. Dialogue between different generations was opened up by seeing this (could this happen today? How could the parents have acted differently? Did they know better? ) A group of us who had seen the movie, all strangers, found our way into deep conversation about the film, as we filtered out of the theatre.

A coming-of-age story that is a large sense typical, yet in a very large sense atypical. Great editing and direction made this 'no-sex-no-violence' film flow smoothly. It brought home again that one will never know everything about the person beside you.

I saw this movie out of curiosity - I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I really enjoyed it; not a dull moment. The acting was excellent and interesting comments on human nature: we see what we want to see.

Fantastic movie. It has a great story with a lot to think about. But what really makes this movie shine is the acting and the script. The only thing that I must complain about is the ending. Its ending was way too forgiving. Still, this movie deserves your attention.

If you like a movie with superb acting (Molina and Mulligan in particular), a snappy dialogue and a sprinkling of romance and coming of age, albeit with some speed bumps,.. THEN... this is going to be a movie for you to enjoy.

This film has a lot of promise but fails to deliver. The characters are so unbelievable and story so implausable that even if you suspend reality the film does not work. Although well acted and occasionaly quite funny, the film failed to hold my attention. Alfred Molina's acting was the highlight, he was great as the old school English fater and he provided the funniest moments. But ultimately the whole thing was predicatable and artificial.

Being atracted to older men since I was a teenager myself I identified inmediately with the main character and the whole movie was so well directed and acted that I though it was my own life on screen!!!

Here's a gem of a little movie. I've always liked Peter Sarsgaard, and he delivers the good once again. This movie is very good, with a great story, and introduces us (well me anyway) to a very talented young leading actress in Carey Mulligan. We are also spoiled by Alfred Molina who shines in his supporting take as Carey's father. And Rosamund Oike also delivers a solid supporting role. Great performances, a solid story, an endearing plot, and the perfect accompanying soundtrack... 8/10, a great movie, don't miss it if you like feel good stories set in jolly old Britain!

Overall, well done. The talented Carey Mulligan is definitely someone to watch as her career develops. She plays her role as mature, smart and savvy -- almost a bit more than was believable, considering the circumstances of the character. Her suave and worldly love interest is well played by Peter Sarsgaard, and the knot in your gut tightens as the story unfolds and you sense where it's heading. I loved the way Rosamund Pike played the girlfriend of Sarsgaard's business partner. Both she and the mother seemed to illustrate the razor's edge walked by women of the time who had to smile and pretend everything was fine even when it wasn't. So much of this movie shows women's struggle at many levels to claim choices for themselves that didn't involve sacrificing their intelligence, dignity, dreams or humanity. I think the story's initially smooth momentum becomes a bit choppy in the latter part of the film, which seemed not quite sure how to wrap up the story to a conclusion. Despite some shortcomings, the film is still definitely worth seeing.

Carey Mulligan... a revelation indeed. Down memory lane very well crafted, excellent acting, though the end is somewhat brutal. Kudos to Peter Sarsgaard and his wonderful, sexy British accent. I liked the mother's role. Go see it, it's a breath of pure, fresh air.

The acting, sets and costumes were great. The writing and screenplay are also top knotch except that it falls apart a bit at the end. The conclusion is rushed and too easy for a story with a lot of conflicts & complications. Better to have had the story end a little earlier and leave the viewer with a bit of guessing, knowing that the obvious ending could go either way. That being said this was a wonderful viewing experience.

This film contains a subtle and well crafted story, the details of early 1960s London (UK) are recreated very realistically. Peter Sarsgaard gives a compelling performance with an impeccable London accent (he's actually a full blooded American) The performances all round are Oscar worthy. Could stand being viewed twice as its fine craftmanship may not be fully apparent upon an initial glance. Nuanced and impressionistic.

Fabulous! Coming of age stories are nothing new, but this one is a breath of fresh air. The acting, direction, cinematography are top notch. Carey Mulligan is a real gem to discover (imagine playing a 16 year old at 24?!) Casting Peter Sarsgaard as the seducer might be a bit a stretch. Must admit, he’s a dead-ringer for Jack Lemon (he was cast as loser in his days) The movie makes one think about the changing time for woman liberation in the West since the 60s - what are we looking for in life? -Marriage-career-hapiness?! Are women so much ahead, happier, after all these years?!!!

A coming of age movie with a nice twist as we see the parents growing up as well. Superb acting by all. It combines a dash of humour, a smidgeon of tragedy and everyone lives happily ever after.. God bless the Brits!! Quite delightful to be sure.

It was too long. Story was inconceivable. Boring, boring, boring. The female lead was a dead ringer for Katie Holmes - another boring actress. The male lead didn't look to me like he could attract a 16 year old. Back again to inconceivable. Don't go.
