Watching this movie was a lot like going to the dentist to get a cavity filled, having your tooth drilled, but leaving without the filling. It was painful, and a lot of rot was dug up, but there was no closure. There was no growth. And as such, there was little art..

I know people like Igby. I've hung out with them, philosophized with them, joined in and spat bile at the world with them in a sarcastic tongue. I can tell you where to go to meet Igbies... the Fine Arts departments of some universities. The offices of the student-run newspapers for local colleges. Squeedgie-punks on St. -Laurent corners. As with Igby Goes Down, the movie, you can have a beer, conversation or screw with these dudes or dudettes, get out all your pent-up venom at living in a world made for people less intellegent and less sensitive than you, and then return to your normal life, leaving them where they still wallow. Trouble is, you have to pay 10$ to watch Igby wallow for two hours, get no beer, [...] and can't yell back or smack his limp, snotty mug. It's not worth the 10 bucks. Go to Fouf instead..

I recommend this movie you are searching for something slightly different. Kieran Culkin was just excellent in his role... he oozes youthful despair. Jeff Goldblum also "owned" his part. Well worth catching. Also Jeff Goldblum.

After watching Igby Goes Down, I wanted to find my own sunny day. This film sets off so many of your own emotions and thoughts; only so many movies can do that. Kieran Culkin's Igby, while distant and sarcastic, had so much heart, that you couldn't help but love him. The best acting I have seen in a long time. Anyone who sees this and says that they don't like it probably can't relate to anything and can't see and understand the symbolize that screams throughout the movie!

I thought it was great. Reminded me of catcher in the rye. No one sucked at acting, which usually ruins movies for me. SO bravo to the cast, and I would recomend it.

After I watched Igby Goes Down, the feeling of despair arose with in me. All I wanted to do was lie down and just lie there forever, only so many movies do that to a person. Igby Goes Down was a fantastic film with inspiring actors and actresses. I had never heard of the movie until I went to the video store, much like other great movies I have seen. And one would hope that after seeing this great of a movie that you shall tell others to see it. So for if you have not seen Igby Goes Down yet in your lifetime, do so without anything but fear... for this movie will make you feel fearless and will make you think that you are life, and that you are death. It was a masterpiece.

I just watched Igby the other night. I figured it would be pretty stupid, but with that all-star cast, they didn't screw it up like that stupid royal tenenbaums movie. It was a very good movie though, Kieran Culkin fit the part perfectly. And I must say I liked the music too! You should all give it a try!!

Igby Goes Down was a great movie and I don't know why it didnt do better at the box office! I think his movies should be advertised more! The dangerous lives of Alter boys was great too! They need more publicity... everyone should be enjoying Kierans killer talent!

I have mixed feelings about this film. I enjoyed the performances but really disliked the characters. The cast is great but the story is depressing. The setting is New York City, which is fascinating but the director has a way of showing its excesses. The soundtrack is good but most of the songs are covered by other than the original artists, which give them less impact in my opinion. I can't endorse this picture wholeheartedly but its worth seeing on a discount day.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.]
An important coming of age film for the new millenium, almost as good as 1967's "The Graduate". Unfortunately it's message will get lost in the wash of the 1000 channel universe and the era when movies come and go in less than two weeks. This is an incredibly dark comedy and will not appeal to the average thrill seeking filmgoers out there. K. Culkin plays a spoiled rich brat from an incredibly dysfunctional family that struggles with what he wants to be vs. What everyone else wants him to be. You never really get to like this kid but you do eventually end up feeling sorry for him. There is a lot of negativity in this film but it leaves you with some hope at the end that these characters will eventually be freed from their hypocritical, immoral and shallow existences. There are a lot of recognizable stars in the cast that really give the film a credibility it deserves. The defining point in the film is when Culkin's character exclaims "I'm drowning in a sea of *ss*oles." A great comment on the state of the world today!

Great Movie, was mostly impressed by the award worthy acting of Kieran Culkin (igby) and Amanda Peet. I saw it a few days a go, and haven't stopped thinking about it. A must see...

What made this movie a 9 for me was the total unpredictability of it. I couldn't even begin to imagine what would happen next, resulting in a totally enthralling experience. That and it had a wicked soundtrack. It was similar to The Royal Tennenbaums except this wasn't garbage. With a great cast, witty, funny dialogue, and at least three Oscar-deserving performances, this was a top-notch movie all the way. Warning: it is a little on the depressing side... okay, a LOT on the depressing side, despite the plentitude of funny lines and incidents. Nevertheless, I walked out of the theatre with high spirits. I don't know if I would go so far as to call it a feel-good movie, but I strangely found it somewhat uplifting. My first born child will be named Igby.

This movie was the worst I have ever seen. It was not funny. It was not entertaining. It was the worst acting I've ever seen by Claire Danes and Susan Sarandon. Kieran Culkin plays a little rich brat that you really don't give a damn about. Save your money and go see a GOOD movie.

A true masterpiece. One of the best movies I've seen this year, Kieran Culkin has the skills to become an Oscar winner in a few years. Jeff Goldblun and Susan Sarandon are also excellent. A must see!

Igby Goes Down is a remarkable piece of movie making. It captures perfectly every emotions. Amazing casting. Kieran Culkin is even better in this than he was in "The Secret Lives of the Altar Boys". A dream for everyone that enjoys those intelligent sarcastic drama.
