I loved this movie I had to have watched at least 20 times... and cant get enough... what can I say small budget movie... great results, like the ending jiffy cabs, true nfld. Jones and Hurt make a great team, and having snook there was great..

I've seen a lot of movies, mostly Indy, but "Rare Birds" does something for me. It provides a bit of contemporary comedy with a hint of mystery and danger. I've found myself watching it atleast once a month. I haven't seen many Canadian comedies but this one, no doubt, has alleviated any prejudices I would have formally had. Rare Birds is top notch. William Hurt is completely diversified even though "Dark City" is his only other film worth of recognition. Molly Parker gives a guilt ridden and completely sultry perfomance, I found myself hidden an erection."Rare Birds" regardless of it's standings of money earnings is a great film and should be seen by all.

Wonderfull Movie, very well acted. One of the people above mentioned that the RCMP thing at the end didn't make sense? Maybe that person should watch the movie again and maybe they'll understand it. I believe this is the only movie which has been developed in Newfoundland that truly expresses how wonderfully entertaining we can really be.

I saw Rare Birds last night and was delighted by the whole picture. I thought Andy Jones was excellent (no surprise) and William Hurt was fantasticly nervous and blubbering; his accent was perfect because it wasn't pushed like in the Shipping News. He sounded like me. The end was campy, I'll admit; but funny all the same. Must easier to watch than the Shipping News; no so much drama. It was an easy comfortable, emjoyable movie. I thought it was great; I''l probably buy it.

I loved it. Andy Jones was fantastic - I've never seen him before and thought he was wonderful. A really fun movie with an original story line. Great entertainment!

Rare Birds was quite the surprise. I rented it just to see the Newfoundland scenery & was overwhelmed by the story & the performances as a bonus. Andy Jones was marvelous & deserves an Oscar nomination. Even though it had some exagerated plot lines towards the end, overall, it won my heart & made me want more. Hope there is a sequel or at least another movie with Andy Jones playing the Alphonse character againl. Should be seen by all.

Funny, offbeat, east coast movie with William Hurt accurately affecting the appropriate accent and Andy Jones of Codco Fame giving the funniest performance of his career. Not for all tastes but definitely to mine!

I never thought it was possible, but this is probably the first ever non-angst-ridden Canadian film ever made. Witty, quirky, and rather exhilerating, I strongly recommend this movie to anyone who has a liking for independant films.

I thought the story line was a pretty good idea, but it just seemed to dragged longer than it needed to. I know tons of people are saying it was really funny and there were some good parts, but the other stuff I just didn't see the humor in it. This wasn't just me thinking that too. In all, the acting was great, filming and story line was all great... Just needed a little more to it.

Rare Birds is a movie that does for Newfoundland what that recent and dreadful Hollywood picture set in that province failed to do. William Hurt gives his usual stiff & wooden performance but the rest of the cast shines - especially Andy Jones - in an entertaining and delightful tale that proves to be a real charmer throughout.

"Rare Birds" is a wonderful film. Andy Jones, playing a very affable and believable Newfoundlander steals the show from Hollywood actor William Hurt. This is sure to land him more roles and some deserved recognition. He also closely resembles an Uncle of a friend of mine. Although Hurt plays the straight man to Jones' colorful character, I found his performance rather flat. He made a mild attempt to take on the "Newfie" accent but I found sometimes the accent was there and other times it wasn't. I also really enjoyed the vehicle he drove in the film, a beat up early 1980's version of the Lada Cossack 4X4. They must have salvaged this beauty from a dump in Gander or something. Actress Molly Parker is a beautiful woman but is not overly glamourous which gives her a very nice " Girl next door charm". Although there was some romance in this film between Parker's character and Hurt's character, it did not overpower the film which is a rare treat. It's nice to see two character's relationship develop slowly in a film without having to show them going at it like two rabbits. This film progressed nicely until the end when it seemed to get a little silly with the hapless RCMP officers dominating the scenes and not offering much to the plot of the film. All in all a wonderful comedy, sure to please most viewers, Birdwatching enthusiasts may be offended by their portrayal in this film but so what. No big special effects here, no computerized whiz bang, just a funny story, a great cast, some good laughs and some nice scenery.

I saw this movie last night and was pleasantly surprised. It was funny, honest, and a delight to see. The "RSV" was a hoot! From the reaction of the full house I could see that they felt the same way. I wish the movie industry would make more of this type of movie.

I was quite surprised by this movie. I went to see it to support the national film industry but was quite entertained. Rare Birds proves that Canada can put out movies that you go to the theatre to see.

Andy Jones is hilarious in this movie, and everyone else is pretty good too. I had extremely high expectations after laughing out loud through the book. On a minor down note, I found the bumbling RCMP raid a bit overdone and campy. Excellent movie overall!

We saw the film last night and was delighted with this light hearted film. Andy Jones was Hillarious. And Molly's part was played to perfection. It's kind of a guy movie that your spouse will love. A guy can really relate to the events. Most refreshing.

Loved it. Good comedy. Amazing how this movie got almost no advertizing, while the Shipping News was the big hype for Newfoundland. While the two movies differ greatly in the type of movie, we actually enjoyed this one more. A must see. Just go and enjoy.

Rare Birds was delightful! It was our fave film at the T.O. film festival. The actors all look like they're having a blast - and it's contagious! Fun!
